Framework for leadership
A framework depending upon the leadership orientation was prepared by The Blake Mouton Managerial Grid leadership module. In which one is task oriented another is people oriented. While the task oriented leaders put more stress on completing the task assigned in any way, leaders who are people oriented are more likely to look out for the welfare of people first.
In the late 1960’s Robert Blake and Jane Mouton prepared the model which is popularly known as Blake Mouton Managerial Grid leadership which has its plot based on task-focused versus person-focused characteristics and recognizes five distinct leadership styles.
- Concerning for people
- Concerning for task results
Five leadership styles:
Team Leadership –High People/ High Production

In here the employees are very committed to meet the production needs of the organization, they have equal interest in the company’s stake and which is directly connected to the well-being and success of the employees as well. Thus, an environment of trust and companionship builds up which yields high results for both the employees and organization.
Middle-of-the-Road Management –Medium People/ Medium Results
This style is more about balance where both the needs of employees and organization are at some level compromised. Therefore the need is not fulfilled in total and there remains scope of improvement. Employers settles their mind on average performances and don’t expect more from the organization or the employees.
Authority-Compliance Management –Low People/ High Results
The leader of this group is often referred to as authoritarian. In this category, employee needs are always secondary to the needs of the organization. The ruler is always very dominating and autocratic, they make their employees follow strict work rules and policies to keep them under pressure to meet the ends of the organization. Also, they believe in punishment and fear would help to increase more productivity of the employees.
Impoverished management- Low People/ Low Results
The leader of this category is very less active, they find it hard to get a job done by the employees, or to make a happy and productive workplace for the employees. The end result is ineffective work strategies, dissatisfaction and a total haphazard among the employee as well as the work process.
Country club management- Low Results/ High People
The leaders of this category are always more concerned about the team members and employees. They firmly belief that the key to success depends upon the welfare of employees. A relaxed and secure work environment will help the team members to increase productivity.
